Torrevieja's Unique History & The Best Climate in Europe
As you drive towards southern Costa Blanca, you can't miss the natural saltwater lagoons complete with fabulous pink flamingo's feasting in the nutrient rich lake beds. These saltwater lagoons are the largest in Europe and assist in providing Torrevieja Spain with a unique 'micro-climate'. The town is steeped with history from its roots of fishing, sailing and salt workers.
Beautiful Beaches
There are some great beaches to choose from in the area, from Torrevieja beach, La Zenia, Campoamor, Playa Flamenca, Punt Prima and La Mata. Most have the prestigious 'blue flag' award with pure white sand and turquoise seas. We chose Punt Prima as our base and have never looked back. With its magnificent cycle paths and walks along the entire coast, a tavern is never far away to relax and soak up the sun
The esplanade of Torrevieja is currently undergoing a transformation. Apart from the 1,500 moorings at the marina, the port is being redeveloped to include restaurants, shops and increased moorings - whilst still retaining its charm and Spanish tradition.
The Best in Golfing
The area surrounding Torrevieja boasts some of the best golf courses around. You can choose from Villamartin, which hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open; Quesada; Las Ramblas; Campoamor; and the recently built La Finca. Golfers are simply spoilt for choice!
Unique Micro-Climate
Torrevieja Spain has a micro-climate, partly due to the nearby salt lakes and the surrounding mountain range. June to August can get very hot and is the traditional time for the Spanish to take their holidays and enjoy the Fiestas. The milder temperatures of Spring and Autumn are fabulous for relaxing and avoiding the beaches. The area boasts over 320 days of sunshine and is regarded by the 'World Health Organisation' as being one of the healthiest places in the world to live. |
