Car Hire Spain.

Traffic is much lighter than within the UK. There are some toll roads, but the tolls are usually only €4. Petrol and diesel is the same in Euros as it is in British Pounds. (That means a saving of around 30%)

Our Personal Recommendations for Car Hire Spain
These are the companies that we have found to be the best:
1. Holiday Autos
An excellent car hire 'broker' with an excellent reputation. They use the main car hire companies in Spain and we have never had any problems with them. They don't actually rent cars themselves, but act as the broker for you. You are always guaranteed of good service and cheap car hire prices. they do use all the major car hire companies in Spain, so can get you the best deals.
Check out Holiday Autos here:
2. Easy Car
Set up by the founder of the famous EasyJet, although completely independent from them. They offer great value, but do check your insurance cover closely and any excess. Not as easy to collect at the airport than the main operators, but good value
Check out EasyCar here:
3. Sixt
they have branches everywhere and once again offer good value. they are however more known for the rental of vans rather than cars. If you want a van to collect in England and drive to Spain, they provide a very good service. They have recently expanded to provided worldwide car rental and operate from Alicante airport, but note that the prices are in Euros, not British Pounds.
Check out Sixt here:
4. Record
This is a Spanish operator that are very popular. Just collect your car at either Murcia or Alicante airport. The only drawback is that they ONLY deal with Record cars and no other companies. Because of this, you will need to compare their prices with say Holiday autos, who broker for all the major car hire companies in Spain. Note prices are in Euros. They operate from both Murcia & Alicante airport.

Tips when getting your car hire in spain
- Always check the car over BEFORE you drive it away
- Check for any dents etc - always report these
- Check the tyres are fine and that they look inflated correctly
- Check the interior - is is clean?, Are there any marks?
- Have you got a full tank of petrol / diesel?
If there are any problems, do not accept it. Go back to the place you collected the keys and complain about it. Do not loose your temper and remain calm. They will understand you and will always replace it or even upgrade it for you (free of charge).
When you leave the keys, hand the keys to the person and get them to check it's okay before you leave it. If you are flying back early or late, it is not uncommon to just have to leave the keys through a window of a van or into a letterbox. Take a picture of it before you leave. You shouldn't have any problems at all, but you never know.
